Monmouth-Roseville Community Unit School District #238 serves approximately 1,575 students from PreK to 12th Grade. With campuses in both Monmouth and Roseville, the district is rooted in strong traditions, proud of its diverse and supportive community, and focused squarely on preparing every student for life beyond the classroom—whether that means working in the trades, entering the workforce, pursuing college, joining the military, or discovering other post-secondary pathways.

Under the leadership of Superintendent Mr. Ed Fletcher, who has served in the role since 2012, Monmouth-Roseville has built a reputation for thoughtful curriculum development, inclusive school culture, and steady, student-focused leadership. “You can’t build a great school without great students and great staff,” Fletcher says. “We’re fortunate to have both, as well as a deeply supportive community.”

The district's academic foundation is anchored by a thoughtfully curated curriculum that stretches from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Teachers across grade levels and subject areas work collaboratively to ensure that learning is vertically aligned, meaning students are steadily progressing toward readiness for the next academic challenge. This focus on coherence is paired with an emphasis on individual student growth, community partnerships, social/emotional learning, and whole-child development.

District 238 is also proud to be a leading employer in the region, with approximately 250 team members including certified staff, paraprofessionals, food service workers, transportation staff, custodians, and support personnel. For Fletcher, the success of the district is also deeply personal. He and his wife raised their four children in the district, all of whom went on to college in pursuit of their own self-discovery and career interests. “We’ve seen the results firsthand,” he says. “This district really does prepare kids to succeed.”

Located in a very special region of rural Western Illinois, Monmouth-Roseville benefits from its setting in a small liberal arts college town—home to Monmouth College—and the kind of civic and cultural texture that gives the district a rare level of enrichment. Organizations like the Buchanan Center for the Arts, the Pattee Foundation, and the Jamieson Community Center partner regularly with the district to offer expanded learning opportunities and creative outlets for students. Beyond that, twenty-six languages are spoken in the homes of Monmouth-Roseville students. These collaborations and wonderfully unique dynamics add depth to the educational experience and are a testament to the community’s belief in public education as a shared responsibility.

Now in his 13th year with the district and 30th year in public education, Fletcher sees Monmouth-Roseville as much more than a job. “When I first learned about this district, I knew it was a destination,” he recalls. “It offered all the things we wanted for our family—strong schools, a sense of place, and a community that supports its kids.”
