Empowering students to take the next step

Lincoln School Counselor

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as your child’s school counselor.  I would like to welcome you and your child to Lincoln Early Childhood School!  I am excited to meet and get to know your child.  Kindergarten and 1st grade are such an exciting time in a child’s life!

As our first step in building a relationship, I would like to tell you a little about myself. I earned my Master’s Degree in School Counseling from Western Illinois University and am certified as a school counselor by the Illinois Department of Education.   I live in Galesburg and have a son who is in kindergarten and a daughter who is 5th grade.

I would also like to give a brief summary of the School Counseling Program that provides services to your child.  The School Counseling Program is designed to assist with interests and issues related to the stages of student growth in the area of academic and personal/social development.  The following services will be offered for the 2016-2017 school year:

  • Weekly Classroom Guidance with an emphasis on personal social/emotional skills (manners, making good choices, bullying, stranger safety, acceptance, etc.)

  • Individual sessions based on referral from teacher or parent/guardian

  • Group sessions for students focused on : life skills, divorce, grief, friendship, social skills, and self-esteem (all groups are run on an as needed basis)

  • Behavioral interventions aligned with the RtI process

If you have any questions regarding our counseling program, please contact me at 734-2222 or ggonzalez@mr238.org.  Working together helps ensure your child’s success in school, the community, and life in general.  I wish your child much success in this school year.  I also look forward to meeting you!
